Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. The most common schedule is 11:30 am–9 pm. It is closed on Monday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (630) 851-7997. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, goldenseaaurora.com.

Aurora is in Illinois, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Aurora follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

I ordered shrimp egg foo yung, beef fried rice, and beef teriyaki or beef sticks. The egg in the foo Yung had a strange texture like overcooked rice, the beef sticks were dry and tough, and the beef fried rice was oily. I had ordered the spicy fried and hot & sour soup before. The spicy fried rice was inconsistent with the spice level. I was used to pieces of pork being in the hot and sour soup, but no more. Since the previous owners left, (I miss Connie and her husband), I have tried this food a few times. It is so inconsistent that I never know what I will get. The safest thing I have found to order is the shrimp fried rice. It is consistently bland, but not oily or greasy. This was the last time. Spending $40+ and it was barely edible. I could even handle it if it was consistently mediocre. This last order was just bad. I really wish I knew what they did to the eggs to make them have a mushy consistency. The one positive thing I can say is that it was hot. Even ordering via Uber Eats, it arrived hot.

Service here was a bit all over the place. It looked like just one person was handling everything—taking orders, prepping, managing takeout, and serving tables—so naturally things felt a bit chaotic. She was clearly doing her best, and I honestly felt for her, but it just wasn’t enough to keep things running smoothly. The setup feels very ad hoc and more like a small, family-run spot focused mainly on takeout. If you’re thinking of dining in, I’d recommend otherwise—our experience sitting down to eat wasn’t great. Service was slow, and it didn’t feel like the dine-in experience was really a priority. There was also a bit of a language barrier which made communication tricky at times. Not a dealbreaker, but it did add to the overall sense of confusion. Overall, probably fine if you’re just picking up food, but not ideal for a sit-down meal.

Here visiting from Southern California. I moved out of Illinois 4 years ago. This place was my go to Chinese spot before I moved. So I had to come back and get some food stuff. I was happy with the meal for sure. You cannot find good Chinese in California where I am.
